Did you know that Amethyst crystal is variation of Quartz?!
Quartz occurs in sedimentary, igneous, and metaphoric rocks that contain a rich quantity of silica. Quartz and the Amethyst crystal both have a similar hardness of 7 on the Mohrs scale and consists of a trigonal crystal system which forms macrocrystalline shapes with a pyramidal appearance. The difference from Quartz, however, is that the Amethyst crystal derives its color chiefly from different amounts of aluminum and iron.
What makes the amethyst unique are features of angular zones of darker to lighter color which add to the brilliance and depth of the amethyst’s appearance!
